Ruksher Malik is the co-founder of the highly successful and award-winning Pastels Salon brand. She spent two years training in London at the most acclaimed hair academies, namely Vidal Sassoon,Toni &Guy, The L’Oreal Technical Academy, Nicky Clarke, Morris masterclass international and Complections international. After establishing a successful salon in India, Ruskher relocated to the UAE in 1996, setting up the Pastels Salon brand with business partner Steven Chan in 2004.
Originally from Sydney, Australia, Georgie has worked in the hair industry for 15 years and has been at Pastels Salon since 2011.
She trained as an apprentice for four years at Noddy’s in King in Newtown, Sydney Australia, remaining there as a senior colour technician for another 4 years after her training. She has also trained with notable hair industry greats including Shane Henning, Paula Hibbard, Sharon Blaine, Darren Fowler, Alan Edwards and Mario Charalambous.
Georgie has been part of pastels artistic team since its inception in 2012 and one of her proudest moments was when the latest shoot Pop Generation was featured as the editor’s collection of the week in the international magazine, Hairdressers Journal as working on this shoot had pushed the boundaries of her creativity.
Georgie is passionate about teaching, She loves sharing her knowledge and helping others improve their technique so they can not only make their clients happy but ensure they continually do beautiful work so they feel good too. Her ethos is based on the fact that knowledge is power and as she says “I live by sharing my skill and paying it forward! “
Believing there is always room for improvement, Georgie attends regular training so she is up-to-date with the latest trends in the hair industry.
Julie has worked in the hair industry for more than 15 years, but is a relative newcomer to the Pastels Salon team, having joined in 2015. She trained in Paris and London for cut/colour. Her favourite part of the job is transforming and creating an image for client, which makes them feel happy. “This job is always changing and I am constantly striving to improve,” she says. “The fast pace with which trends change makes the job fascinating” During her career she has worked in London, Paris and Dubai and she enjoyed adapting her work to the style of each country. Her most memorable moments have been styling photoshoots and working backstage at Fashion Weeks.
Born and raised in Denmark, Didi graduated from hair dressing school in 2007, after a four-year course. Having continued training during her time at Pastels Salon as she believes “You can never learn too much.”
In 2012, she left Denmark and came to Dubai, joining Pastels in 2015. Since she has been at Pastels Salon, she has achieved much. “I learned a lot more about hairstyling. I was awarded first place in a L’Oreal competition and was also named employee of the month recently, which was pretty cool.”
Didi likes everything about the hair industry. “I like to be creative, with crazy colours and short hairstyles. I think I’m most creative when it comes to doing short haircuts which I really enjoy.”
The talented stylist has also worked on several editorial shoots including one for Harper’s Bazaar Arabia in February 2016.
Hailing from Mumbai in India, Sabina has been working in the hair industry for the past 28 years, having joined the Pastels Salon team in 2007 where she works as a junior stylist. She has completed training in L’Oreal and Kerastase products as well for Kerastraight treatment and she undergoes colour and cut training every week with managers Georgie or Natalie. She understands the importance of being hairstylist and she very much enjoys doing color/highlites for clients. “The training that I’ve been given at Pastels Salon has made confident in doing the services,” she says.
Gerly has worked in the hair industry for the past 15 years, joining Pastels Salon in 2006. She trained and qualified in David’s Salon, the leading salon in her native Philippines. Her biggest achievement was styling hair for the Dubai Sheikha and the Sharjah Sheikha, as well as being involved in Fashion Forward in October 2015. She loves perfoming the KeraStraight treatment and is a whizz at blowdrying!
Aislinn was born and raised in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and has been in the beauty industry for 10 years. She started working for different salons straight after becoming a licensed aesthetician and has since worked for top names such as Christian Dior, Holland America cruisline and Aveda Day Spa. She has been trained extensively during her career in different skin treatments/conditions, Ayurvedic treatments, massage, make-up, as well as customer service. She is a huge fan of the beauty industry in Dubai for its innovative outlook and has been part of Pastels Salon’s beauty team since August 2014. “I would say my greatest achievement is seeing good results with my clients, and building up a nice group of clients. I am a firm believer in a total health approach to achieve beautiful skin, and always do a proper consultation with my clients followed by a skincare program to achieve the best results!”
Cherry Mae has worked in the nail industry for the past 11 years, joining Pastels in late 2013. An expert at Bio gel and Essie, she has become the most requested nail technician at the Jumeirah branch and even counts Janet Jackson, the pop superstar among her past clients.
Carolina has been working as a nail technician at Pastels since 2008. She is qualified to do manicures, pedicures and Gelish and has recently started to train as a hair stylist, which fulfills her desire to always learn something new. The most rewarding part of her job is seeing her clients happy and she enjoys the new funky colours that nail polish brands develop each season.
Hailing from the Philippines, Maricar “Mackie” Rodriguez has worked at Pastels since 2012. She is fully qualified in Bio-sculpture, Brisa Gel and Liquid &Powder (acrylic), Minx Nails, Essie Gel and Harmony Gelish. She has also completed MAC Basic Make-up Training. She has created make-up for well-known TV presenters and has achieved a certificate from the Guinness Book of Records for her work.
Originally from Goa in India, Wency has been at Pastels since 2008. She has had training for Harmony Gelish, Biosculpture and Essie gel and enjoys making clients’ nails beautiful.
She enjoys meeting and working with people from all over the world and having feedback from happy clients.
Purnima has been in the hair industry for the past 20 years and joined Pastels in 2010. She has tended the tresses of Bollywood celebrities and loves colouring and cutting.
Indian native Renuka has worked in the hair and beauty industry for the past 22 years, joining Pastels Salon in 2005. She loves creating upstyles and blowdries and has a great product knowledge that spans L’Oreal, Redken and Kerastase.
Lekshmi has worked in the beauty industry since 2008 and is a waxing and threading expert. Her proudest moments are when clients provide her with good feedback and refer their friends to her.
Aileen has worked in the nail industry for more than 21 years and joined Pastels in 2015. She has trained in biosculpture, gelish and silk nail repair. In the past she has tended the nails of some of the most famous celebrities and the President in her native Philippines.
This wonderful therapist has been in the beauty industry for the past 10 years and has worked at Pastels since 2014. She has had extensive training in waxing and nails and loves working at the salon because it allows her to keep up with the latest trends.
Rebika has been working at Pastels Salon for the past 10 years. Since she started, she has completed training in Re-bonding, Colouring, Cut & Blow Dry, as well as back wash treatments. She has been awarded Employee of the Week and Employee of the Month.
She enjoys the changes that are visible after she colours her client’s hair, but personally, most of all she loves the reaction and the calmness the clients enjoy after she gives them a back wash treatment and her signature neck & shoulder massage.
This award-winning Spray Tan therapist has worked at Pastels for the past 9 years, becoming a favourite with socialites and beauty media mavens for her flawless method. She has completed training for L’Oreal products, Xen tan, Vita Liberata and Fake Bake tan.
Originally from the Philippines, Nancy has been at Pastels Salon since 2008, where she works as a hairdresser assistant, using her extensive expertise to offer clients advice on products from L’Oreal, Kerastase and Redken. She enjoys all aspect of the hair industry but most especially when a client leaves her chair happy! “Giving them nice head massage during the treatment which made them fall asleep or completely relax while they were having their hair wash makes me feel happy,” she says.
Edralyn has worked in the hair industry for the past 4 years and joined Pastels Salon in 2014. She is passionate about the hair industry and loves learning about the latest hair styles and fashions. She also is well versed in products from haircare giants such as L’Oreal, Redken and Kerastase, which enables her to advise clients on what products are best-suited to their hair.
Jean has worked in the hair industry for almost five years and has been employed at Pastels Salon/RGT in an administrative role since 2013. She loves her work, and the continual learning and developing of her skills and knowledge. Her greatest achievement has been pursuing her career, while bringing up her son.
Shirley started working at Pastels Salon in 2015 and has developed a real passion for the hair and beauty industry since her arrival. Thanks to her income, she has been able to support her family in her native Philippines, for which she is immensely proud.
Janice has worked in the hair industry as a receptionist for almost 4 years but joined Pastels in Autumn 2015. As well as receiving training for the Shortcuts booking system, she has also received extensive product training. Her proudest moment was when she was awarded Employee of the month.
She loves meeting the different clients that walk through Pastels ‘doors each day and the fact that the team feels like a real family.
Zara has worked as a nail technician for the past 11 years, and has been at Pastels Salon since 2014. She has completed training for Biosculpture, Essie polish and gel, and also Harmony gelish and she thrives on advising clients on how to improve the quality of their nails. Her proudest moment and greatest achievements was moving to Dubai. “It was very difficult to leave my family but I wanted to better myself and to be able to help my family and myself for the future,” she says.
The face that has welcomed thousands of clients into our Jumeirah branch, Shiela has been at Pastels since 2011. A beacon of excellent customer service, Shiela thrives on meeting new people, something she does on a daily basis and she loves learning the latest trends in the hair and beauty industry.
